Technology Description: | |
Foxboro offers the Century line of portable gas detection analyzers. The Century OVA allows the user to perform quantitative analysis as well as qualitative analysis (with GC option), particularly useful for characterization of the waste site, or mapping plumes from storage tank spills. Based on FID (Flame Ionization Detection) techniques.
TVA Toxic Vapor Analyzer-handles demanding hazardous waste applications. Dual or single detector design (depending on the model). Ergonomic packaging, and on board data logging. Dual FID or PID (Photoionization Detector) capability allow the user to carry only one analyzer to a site instead of two.

Performance Status:
The Century OVA and TVA-1000 have been the standard in monitoring levels of unknown chemicals in the following areas: Hazardous Waste, Fugitive Emissions, and Industrial Hygiene. The OVA (with GC option) are particularly useful for characterization of a waste site, or mapping plumes from storage tank spills. These systems have over 20 years of a successful track record and were used by the EPA to help set the monitoring standards for VOC leak detection. The 2 second response time and easy-to-read analog scale make the unit simple to use.
Limitations:
The Century OVA and TVA-1000 are survey analyzers designed to give a total vapor reading. The OVA can be purchased with a GC to qualify as well as quantify a specific gas. Otherwise they are limited to giving a total and cannot separate and specify particular compounds in the presence of a mixture. The TVA-1000 PID detector (as with the PIDs) are sometimes affected by moisture and other factors. This why a dual detector is the system of choice since it will offer more flexibility in testing.
