Overview of State Regulations
Oklahoma has state asbestos regulations in addition to the adopted Federal EPA regulations for asbestos. The state is NESHAP-delegated by the EPA Region 6. At present, EPA oversees Oklahoma asbestos training.
State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program
The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in Oklahoma:
A. The Oklahoma Department of Labor, Asbestos Division (contact phone (405) 528-1500 ext. 250, general phone (405) 528-1500) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
- training courses
- certifications
- licensing
- pre-abatement notifications/approvals
- review of abatement designs
- AHERA/schools
- worker safety/medical surveillance

- laboratory and analyst requirements/certifications - NVLAP
- sampling/site clearance requirements
