A non-profit, membership-based organization founded in 1983 to serve the islands of Maine. The Institute strives to provide a resource for island communities. They present forums for inter-island activities, serve as a clearinghouse for information about trends and conditions affecting the islands and waters of the Gulf of Maine, and act as a catalyst for ecologically sustainable development through model projects that bring together private enterprise, education, science, and state and municipal agencies. |
