Overview of State Regulations
Iowa has adopted federal asbestos regulations. The state training course program for asbestos personnel is not approved by the EPA Region 7.
State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program
The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in Iowa:
A. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (contact phone (515) 281-8443, general phone (515) 281-5385) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
- pre-abatement notifications/approvals
- NESHAP/demolition/renovation/wet/tag/bag/bury.
B. The Iowa Workforce Development, Division of Labor (contact phone (515) 281-6768, general phone (515) 281-6175) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
- licensing - inspectors and companies

Laboratory Requirements
There are no state-specific accreditation requirements for laboratories and analysts performing asbestos analyses.
