Abstract: | |
Envirocare of Utah is a landfill and processing facility that can accept radioactive, hazardous, mixed, and solid waste for disposal. Envirocare accepts waste in the categories for disposal at the Clive, Utah facility:
- Low-Level Radioactive Waste (LLRW)
- Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM)
- 11e.(2) - By-product material (tailings) from Uranium and Thorium refining processes
- Mixed Waste - LLRW or NORM that also contains hazardous constituents.
- Virtually any solid phase waste type is acceptable including, but not limited to: Soils, Concrete, Tailings, Dry Active Waste / PPE, Process Wastes / Salts, Decommissioning Wastes, Metals, Oversized Equipment, Resins / Filter Media, Wood, Asbestos, Structural Debris, Dried Sludges, Solidified Wastes, Incinerator Ash.
If a waste stream does not meet the acceptance criteria for disposal at the Clive facility, Envirocare can treat the wastes to satisfy treatment standards required for disposal at the landfill.
Two types of waste treatment are offered by Envirocare: chemical fixation/stabilization and macroencapsulation. Chemical fixation/stabilization is accomplished by mixing the waste stream with specific chemical reagents achieve the chemical and physical characteristics desired. The facility is equipped with solid sizing equipment, size reduction equipment, and a low-speed batch mixer for processing wastes. Macroencapsulation provides polyethylene encapsulation of elemental lead and mixed waste debris. Waste is enveloped by a jacket of molten polyethylene which, after hardening, creates an impermeable barrier around the waste material. Waste types that require this treatment cannot be treated by chemical fixation/stabilization technology.
The following is a list of the primary licenses and permits held by Envirocare:
1. Radioactive Materials License
